Based in San Francisco, Herczeg and Tobias Architects is an architectural design firm that specializes in residential and commercial spaces. We pride ourselves in working closely with our clients to determine the right design to meet their unique needs.
Herczeg and Tobias Architects oversees projects from start to finish. Our design services include feasibility studies, architectural layout, interior design, 3D modeling, material and lighting selection, Planning and Building Department coordination, and construction supervision. We find the right contractors, create detailed time schedules, maintain budgets, and strive to make the construction process as transparent as possible.

Our Firm:
Jake Herczeg
Since founding Herczeg and Tobias Architects (HTA), Jake has fostered the firm’s steady growth with his superb design and management skills. His get-it-done attitude and expertise extend to his permitting skills, which prove to be exceptionally helpful when navigating through the permitting process. He’s among the first architects to adopt San Francisco’s revamped Accessory Dwelling Unit program, and has successfully taken part in helping to alleviate San Francisco’s housing shortage by transforming underused spaces into residential units.
In addition to residential work, Jake has experience in hospitality, education, restaurant and retail projects in and around San Francisco Bay Area and New York City. Prior to HTA, he had worked for eight years at Freebairn-Smith and Crane Architects and Melander Architects, and grew up working in his father's architectural practice. Jake is a California-licensed architect and holds an NCARB certificate.
When not in the office, Jake teaches courses in Architecture at the University of San Francisco. He is a native of Brooklyn and he holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Cooper Union. Jake lives with his wife and daughter in SF.
Jerome Tobias
As co-founder of HTA, Jerome is responsible for the firm’s overall design direction and quality control. He has a hand in guiding every project as a mentor and collaborator. His focus is to find the best design solution for project, which demonstrate a keen thoughtfulness and innovation. Jerome has a wide variety of projects under his belt, including commercial renovations, branding for both food and retail, custom furniture and millwork, hotel renovations, large mixed-use complexes, single-family residential projects, and landmark building competitions.
Jerome earned his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Kentucky and his Master of Architecture at UC Berkeley. He’s traveled abroad studying architecture in Japan, India, Thailand, Germany, and Spain. He’s taught first-year architecture studio at Chabot College and University of San Francisco. Previous to HTA, Jerome spent a combined 12 years at Kava Massih Architects and Freebairn-Smith and Crane Architects. He received his LEED AP certification and is a licensed architect in California.
Stone Yu
Stone received his Bachelor degree from University of Colorado, and soon after moved out to the Bay Area. Since being with HTA, Stone has been essential in producing drawing sets, performing construction observation visits, and researching different architectural products. He is an expert in interior layouts, with some hands-on building experience as a bonus. He excels in project team communication and maintains positive relationships with clients, consultants and contractors through each project.
Karina Domingo
With a degree in architecture and community design with a minor in environmental studies from the University of San Francisco,, Karina brings a fresh perspective of design to the architectural practice. She has helped with the design and rehabilitation of multiple residential units across the City of San Francisco. With interests in sustainability and community outreach, her design input will be essential in helping reimagine the architectural landscape for an increasingly crowding city. She is a Bay Area native.
Steven Cheung
As a graduate of the University of San Francisco studying Finance and Architecture, Steven has played an important role at HTA utilizing his diverse skill sets. Steven brings four years of business development and project management experience to HTA and is passionate about further developing his architectural skills. With a gravitation towards human-centric design ideals, he seeks to add measurable value to projects by providing innovative and cost effective solutions for clients. Together with client serving, Steven is excited to be the administrative anchor for HTA as it continues to grow and encounter new challenges.
Brittany Musselman
Prior to joining HTA, Brittany spent several years as an on-site project manager for a General Contractor in San Francisco. Her desire to pursue her architecture background brought her to HTA, where she uses her construction experience in both design and construction administration.
Brittany received her Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, and her Masters of Architecture from the Academy of Art in San Francisco.
